Mid-Semester Self-Care Tips

Erica Kareco

We have officially reached the halfway point of the semester! Although summer may seem so far, we will be quickly arriving to the end of the school year. Since we are at the halfway point of the semester, it is mid-term season. It is important to be taking care of yourself to feel your best, especially since studying for exams can be exhausting. Here are a few tips to make sure you are in your best shape to succeed for the remainder of the semester.

1. Take time to go outside!

As the day is becoming longer and the temperatures are warming up, go outside! The fresh air will make you feel more calm and think more clearly. We are all sitting for long periods of time to study or watch lectures, so taking 15 minutes out of your day to go for a walk will get your body moving and make you feel more awake. If you are really busy and do not have 15 minutes to go for a walk or run, study outside instead.

2. Take designated breaks throughout the day.

When you are studying and watching lectures all day long, it will be harder for you to retain information without having a break. Take time during the day to take a break and do an activity you love to do. Whether this is going for a bike ride, or watching an episode of your favorite TV show, it is important to take time out of your day to focus on something you enjoy doing.

3. Reward yourself for your hard work!

Since you are working so hard to study for exams, make sure you reward yourself. One of my favorite things to do is treat myself to getting coffee every Friday morning. This is something that I look forward to every week, and helps to keep me motivated. If you do not want to spend money, then you can treat yourself to doing activity such as baking cookies or going for a hike.

These tips have helped me get through the halfway point of the semester and I hope they can do the same for you!
